Memorial Stadium Demolition

Dickson Company completed hazardous materials abatement and full structural demolition of Seattle’s Memorial Stadium, one of our largest projects completed in 2025. Two high reach excavators and multiple support machines handled the major structural demolition, while coordinated crane operations addressed some of the project’s most demanding work.

Along the north grandstand, a portion of the existing concrete wall stood less than 12 inches from neighboring McCaw Hall. With the venue remaining open and operational throughout demolition, this work required carefully coordinated cutting, rigging, and controlled removal.

A large mobile crane positioned within the stadium footprint played a central role in dismantling this wall. Working from aerial lifts, crews used a sawcut-and-pick approach to separate the concrete into individual sections for rigging and removal. Each section was lifted clear by crane, requiring close coordination between the cutting crews, riggers, and crane operator to control the load and protect the adjacent building.

Our team also crushed concrete onsite for reuse as fill and foundation base material for the new stadium. This approach reduced offsite hauling and imported aggregate requirements, delivering substantial cost savings while reducing truck traffic, fuel use, and demand for newly quarried materials.

From demolition with two high reach excavators to carefully controlled crane picks inches from McCaw Hall, the project combined substantial equipment resources with the planning and coordination needed to work immediately beside an active facility.

Equipment Utilized: Hitachi 850 and Hitachi 700 high reach excavators, four to five 300–400 class support machines, and our mobile crushing plant.
